Linux als Serverbetriebssystem

Keywords: linux
Type: diploma project
Year: 2005
Discipline: Computer Engineering
[print]

Abstract The idea of a scientific paper about Linux, especially its function as a server, arose, because of its implementation in the “s2m-WarningSystem”- project I worked on this year. The topics Linux and network engineering are enormously innovative. The assembly of these technologies is widespread already and its acceptance is likely to boost in the future as well. Due to the fact that Linux is gaining popularity and the range of its applications is expanding both in the industrial and in the private use, it can be seen as a modern and future option of applications in various categories. Thanks to its direct and fast interface to the hardware, Linux is preferred by an increasing number of developers already. Even in its function as a server, Linux is adopted quite often. Leading companies trust in this operational system as well. The reasons therefore are amongst others security, speed and the numerous access possibilities. Just this server function and the network capability are the key- elements, which are researched and displayed in the scientific paper. The reader should get a deep insight into this network technology and the philosophy of Linux, which is related to it. Christoph Kappacher
